Untamed Tallow uses only 100% Grass-Fed & Finished Beef Suet Tallow - no scrap fat, no pan drippings. This type of tallow is the highest quality, purest, most nutrient dense fat with little to no beefy smell.. The fatty acid composition of this kind of tallow is almost identical to our skin's natural oils and is best suited for cosmetic purposes - not for cooking.
We only use Grass Fed & Finished tallow, meaning the cows are raised on nothing but good old grass. Sourcing Grass Finished tallow is especially important because grass-fed can still mean the cattle are fattened up on corn or grain on the feed lots. For the highest nutrient density and skin-compatibility Grass-Fed & Finished is the best option.
As you can see from the photo, there are a wide variety of wild grasses that we picked from just one field. These wild grasses and weeds contain polyphenols and phytonutrients that offer tremendous health benefits over grain or corn feed. One major difference between grass fed & finished tallow vs corn or grain fed tallow is the Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA) content. CLA has extraordinary anti-inflammatory, anti-aging, and anti-cancer benefits that are still being researched.
Our sourcing is particularly important for our tallow because we only use Suet, the special insulatory fat that surrounds and protects certain organs. We source our suet from cold weather climates where the harsh winters and nutrient dense grass feed allows cows put on this prized fat very quickly and cleanly. Suet tallow is far superior for skincare than scrap fats you'd trim from a steak. Suet is not connected to meat, making for a more pure, nutrient dense, and biocompatible tallow. Suet isn't used for cooking because it doesn't have much flavor compared to the beefy scrap fats or pan drippings.
