FAQ Whipped vs Non-Whipped Tallow

FAQ Whipped vs Non-Whipped Tallow

Our moisturizing tallow balms have a smooth, creamy, texture thanks to our special cooling process that does not entrap air. Untamed Tallow moisturizing balms are unwhipped for four crucially important reasons: shelf life, purity, value, and texture.

Shelf Life: Whipping tallow incorporates little air bubbles, and that exposure to oxygen speeds up oxidation and shortens the shelf life considerably.

Purity: Whipping traps anything floating around in the air into the tallow, which can impact its shelf life and effects on the skin.

Value: Whipped tallow is intentionally measured in ounces by volume, not by weight. No one wants to pay for a half empty jar, but with whipped tallow, you're not getting as much as you think you are. 2 fluid ounces is far less than 2 ounces by weight. For that reason, every one of our tallow balms is at least 2oz by weight.

Texture: A lot of extra oil is needed to make tallow easily whippable. When applied to the skin, whipped tallow products can often feel greasier and take longer to absorb, leaving a shiny finish.
